Decarbonizing Road Freight Transport vehicles roadmap

Why this webinar

Transportation, logistics companies and shippers are developing and implementing their decarbonization roadmaps. Road freight transport decarbonization is critical to achieving climate objectives. Battery Electric and Fuel Cell Hydrogen Electric vehicles are key technologies in development and are expected to be widely available in the future but still require acceleration to de-risk first-in-a-kind investment.

In this session, we will provide an update regarding the session last year (link) we will address these topics:

  • Vehicles availability

As part of ALICE Efficient and Low Emissions Assets and Energy thematic group and ENTRANCE project a market analysis has been performed gathering information from 84+ OEMs and identifying 159 zero emission vehicles models in the market or hitting the market soon. Moreover, 40 vehicles OEMs have been contacted to gather further information on vehicles availability.

  • Policy developments

The European Union has increased their push towards decarbonization through different policy initiatives part of the European Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. Concretely, the review of emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles, the Alternatives Fuel Infrastructure Regulation, the Revision of the Weights and Dimensions Directive are important files in support of advancing implementation of electric vehicles but is it enough to achieve the objectives?

  • Linking offer and demand

In a very fragmented market in terms of demand and with current limitations in availability and sound business models, ALICE considers that concrete activities to link offer and demand of first of a kind solution is critical for adoption acceleration. ENTRANCE project is supporting de-risking investments and practically accelerate innovation adoption.

Agenda (CET)

John will welcome attendees and share the context of the session, introduce this activity field within ALICE and will share the objectives of the session.

  • Vehicles and infrastructure availability. Thomas Fabian. Commercial Vehicles Director at ACEA

Thomas will provide an overview of the policy situation, the most relevant files and points of attention in achieving the objectives.

  • Release of the zero emissions vehicles market analysis done within ENTRANCE project. Antonio Invito. Innovation & Business Analyst at Ciaotech PNO,

PNO will share the summary of the market analysis performed including 150 models of BE and FCE vans and trucks. The list of models and further information will be made            available at ENTRANCE-Platform in which you can consult the market analyses performed last year. The only requirement to access is to register for free on the platform.

John will share the results of the ALICE survey and interview rounds with key OEMs and stakeholders and will call for an holistic and integrated approach to ensure scalability of solutions. He will give an update on the efforts ALICE is making to achieve a wider and multi-stakeholder collaboration framework to accelerate large scale deployment of zero emission solutions in European Corridors and regions.

  • Accelerating road transport decarbonization through collaborative R&I projects. Stefanie Van Damme. Project Manager & Technical Lead at ALICE.

Stefanie will share the results of the BOOSTLOG project cloud report on Zero Emissions Vehicles that provides an overview of past and current R&I projects that are addressing main technological challenges of road electrification. Additionally, Stefanie will focus on the ZEFES project. Stefanie will share interim results of the ZEFES stakeholder survey to capture needs and requirements for the implementation of ZE-HDV.
